McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Board of Corrections has named Joe Allbaugh as interim director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

The board made the appointment Thursday and set Allbaugh’s salary at $165,000 a year. He will start as interim director on Monday.

Allbaugh, of Austin, Texas, is president and CEO of Allbaugh International Group, a strategic and operational consulting services business, based in Washington, D.C.

In 2001, Allbaugh was appointed by former President George W. Bush as the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Allbaugh replaces former Director Robert Patton. Patton resigned last month amid a grand jury investigation into problems with Oklahoma’s last two scheduled executions. Patton said then he wanted to be closer to his family in Arizona and went to work for a private prison there.
