UNION CITY, Ga. (AP) - Police say a suspected shoplifter who pulled out a gun inside a Wal-Mart and shot himself after being confronted by police officers has died.

Union City police told local news media that 20-year-old Dalmar Johnson died about 8 p.m. Wednesday. Police say officers responded to a shoplifting call when the suspect took out a gun, refused to drop it and then shot himself.

Police say Johnson died at Grady Memorial Hospital. It is unclear whether the gunshot was accidental.

Police say no other shots were fired at the store.

The store was evacuated for a short time, but reopened Wednesday evening.
