NORTH EAST, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a trooper conducting a traffic stop was hurt when a car hit his cruiser in North East.

It happened about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday on Old Philadelphia Road, east of Butterfield Lane, state police said in a news release. Authorities say 22-year-old Trooper Charles Tittle was in his marked patrol car with its emergency equipment activated.

Police say a car driven by 30-year-old Sean Jester of North East veered into Tittle’s patrol car from behind.

Troopers say Tittle was treated and release at a local hospital and is on medical leave.

Jester was charged with driving under the influence and numerous other offenses.
