CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - The Marine recruiter who was shot in the leg during a deadly attack in Chattanooga will accept a Purple Heart during a ceremony later this month.

A spokesman for the U.S. Marine Corps confirmed to media outlets Wednesday that Sgt. DeMonte Cheeley will receive the honor Jan. 26. The time and location of the ceremony has not yet been released.

Cheeley was wounded when a gunman opened fire on a recruiting office in Chattanooga last summer. Abdulazeez went on to attack a Navy-Marine reserve center, where he killed four Marines and mortally wounded a U.S. Navy sailor.

Officials announced last month that Cheeley, as well as the five servicemen who were killed that day, would all be receiving Purple Hearts.
