BELLE VERNON, Pa. (AP) - Rep. Peter Daley won’t run for an 18th term to represent the state House 49th District in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The 65-year-old Democrat was first elected to the state House in 1982 after two terms as mayor in California borough. He was 31 when he took office.

Daley says he won’t run for another political office, but plans to practice law and would be open to serving in Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration or “other political opportunities that may arise.”

No Democrats have declared their candidacy for the seat which represents parts of Fayette and Washington counties.

Entrepreneur Melanie Patterson and Donald “Bud” Cook have already said they’re running in the Republican primary on April 26.
