Highway patrol troopers responded to two fatal accidents in South Mississippi on Thursday.

The Sun Herald reports (bit.ly/1SDPhHv) the first was at 3:21 p.m. in Pearl River County. Troopers say a car driven by 22-year-old Jayson Woodfill, of Waveland, was northbound on Mississippi 53 when a car driven by 72-year-old Diane Beith, of Carriere, crossed the center line.

Cpl. B.J. Seibert says the head-on crash killed Beith and injured Woodfill.

The second wreck happened about 3:30 p.m. in George County. A car driven by 17-year-old Tyjuan Fairley, of Lucedale, was westbound on Mississippi 26 when it ran off the road and hit an embankment, then a utility pole.

Seibert says Fairley dead at the scene and a passenger was airlifted to a hospital.
