PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The state Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a $39,000 grant to conduct a national certification course in May for landfill managers and operators from across the state.
Gov. Dennis Daugaard says it’s imperative that landfill managers and operators are adequately trained and certified to ensure the proper handling and disposal of solid waste. He says certified landfill workers can better operate their landfills, improve protection of the environment and save money for their customers by improving efficiency.
The money comes from the Solid Waste Management Program, which provides grants and loans for solid waste disposal, recycling and waste tire projects.
The South Dakota Solid Waste Management Association is made up of professionals in the solid waste industry.
