RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The State Corporation Commission has approved a reduced rate increase for customers of Aqua Virginia Inc.

The SCC announced the decision Friday. Aqua Virginia has multiple water and sewerage systems and serves 81,000 residents in Virginia.

The company in August 2014 requested a rate increase that would result in $1.7 million in additional revenues. The company had imposed an interim rate increase in January 2015.

The SCC decision reduces the revenue increase to $1.4 million, meaning that customers will be due a refund plus interest on overcollections.
