BURKE, N.Y. (AP) - State police are investigating the cause of a three-vehicle crash on a northern New York road that left one person dead and five others injured.

Troopers say 45-year-old Susan Cogan of Malone was traveling west on state Route 11 late Wednesday afternoon when she sideswiped an eastbound vehicle in the town of Burke, on the Canadian border in Franklin County.

Cogan’s vehicle then hit another eastbound vehicle driven by a 27-year-old woman who was traveling with her 2-year-old child. The woman suffered a broken pelvis and leg and her child had non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers say two men riding in Cogan’s car and the man driving the car she hit were slightly injured.

Cogan was taken to the hospital in Burlington, Vermont, where she was pronounced dead.

Route 11 was closed for nearly seven hours after the crash.
