NEW YORK (AP) - A Bronx man charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of his pregnant daughter has been ordered held without bail.

Authorities say Andrea Caruth’s body was found on Wednesday in a hole dug into the floor of a closet in the basement of her Baychester home; the body was covered in gravel.

Prosecutors said at William Caruth’s arraignment Thursday that he dug the hole, which was covered with a piece of plywood and carpet.

A medical examiner says the 39-year-old woman died of strangulation and blunt impacts to the head.

Authorities say she and her 61-year-old father argued after she confronted him about rent payments.

A Bronx judge ordered him held without bail. He’s due back in court Tuesday.

His attorney declined comment.
