ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A former school resource officer in New York’s capital region is going to prison under a plea deal after pleading guilty to a committing a criminal sex act involving a 16-year-old girl.

Joshua Spratt was sentenced Thursday to spend six months in county jail followed by 10-years of probation.

The former Watervliet (wah-ter-vuh-LEET’) police officer admitted in October that he engaged in sex acts with the girl last year in the parking lots of two cemeteries. The 35-year-old Bethlehem man met the teen through his job as a city school resource officer.

Spratt apologized to the judge and said he brought dishonor upon the police department. He didn’t apologize to the girl.

Spratt will be required to register as a sex offender.

His attorney says there are pending civil lawsuits.
