BENTON, La. (AP) - Bossier Parish authorities say a 26-year-old Haughton man who allegedly swindled nearly $3,000 from a youth baseball league last spring is behind bars.

Sheriff Julian Whittington said in a news release Robert Martin III was booked into the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on Dec. 24 after being transferred from McLean County, Illinois, where he had been serving time on another charge.

Martin was booked with felony theft for defrauding parents, youth and sponsors of the Haughton Dixie Baseball League where he tried to work as a coach.

Whittington says detectives had obtained a warrant for his arrest on April 10, but Martin eluded authorities and skipped town.

Martin’s bond totals $6,200.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for him.
