SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Kanawha County school bus driver has been charged with having sex with a 13-year-old student.

Media outlets report that 50-year-old Leonard Smith of Charleston was arrested Thursday on felony charges of third-degree sexual assault and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian.

South Charleston police Detective P.C. Rader says in a criminal complaint in Kanawha County Magistrate Court that the alleged incidents occurred between Dec. 21 and Jan. 3 in South Charleston.

The complaint says the girl talked to investigators Thursday at a Charleston hospital and identified Smith as her school bus driver.

Smith was being held at the South Central Regional Jail. It wasn’t immediately known whether he has an attorney.
