ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A man accused of briefly driving off with an ambulance that had a paramedic in the back has been charged in connection with the incident.

The Anderson Independent-Mail (https://bit.ly/22P0Z6s ) reports 53-year-old Lenny Ray Ware is charged with grand larceny and kidnapping.

Authorities said a man who was discharged from the AnMed Health Medical Center emergency room Wednesday jumped into the ambulance and began to drive away with the paramedic in the rear.

The paramedic managed to get through a divider into the front of the ambulance, putting the vehicle into park around the time it hit a curb.

Anderson Police Department Capt. Kevin Warren says officers have seen video of the incident. He says the video will likely be made public once the department obtains a copy from the hospital.
