WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man has pleaded not guilty to murder and sexual assault charges in the more than 25-year-old killing of an 85-year-old woman.

David Roscoe, of Westerly, entered the plea Friday morning in Kent County Superior Court. He was ordered held without bail pending a Feb. 1 hearing.

Police say 59-year-old Roscoe sexually assaulted and killed Germaine Mouchon in her West Warwick apartment in 1990. He was arrested in November.

West Warwick police said they reopened the case last summer after Mouchon’s grandson inquired about it. Evidence collected at the scene was retested.

Police have said that because of advances in DNA technology, a DNA sample can be matched to Roscoe.
