FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A maintenance worker is recovering after being rescued from the bell tower of a church in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Fire Department Battalion Chief Calvin Bishop tells local media outlets that firefighters were called to the Hay Street United Methodist Church about 3 p.m. Thursday.

They found a worker who had been repairing the building’s heating and air conditioning system had fallen from a ladder into a narrow area in the bell tower.

It took firefighters about 40 minutes to lower the man using a stretcher and ropes.

The worker’s name was not released. He was taken to the hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.
