NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania mother, her boyfriend and her brother have been jailed on charges they beat her two children, locked them in closets, and forced the kids to relieve themselves on the floor.

WJAC-TV (https://bit.ly/1ZRRZuQ ) reports the charges grew out of an investigation by Cambria County Children and Youth Services.

Online court records show 28-year-old Jenna Mulhern; her boyfriend, 26-year-old Matthew D’Auria; and 32-year-old brother Derek Parenti have been jailed since Wednesday on child endangerment and other charges. Court records don’t list attorneys for the trio who face a preliminary hearing Jan. 19.

Police say Mulhern told them the discipline was necessary because her children, ages 10 and 5, were out of control.

Investigators found a broken wooden paddle in the house, but say the children weren’t bruised, though they were covered in flea bites.
