SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - An Arizona woman who killed her children in a Southern California hotel room after losing custody to her ex-husband has been sentenced to life in prison without chance of parole.
Marilyn Kay Edge was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty last month to murder with special circumstances.
Prosecutors say the 44-year-old Scottsdale mother gave cough syrup to her 10-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son before smothering them and drowning them in a bathtub in 2013 at a Santa Ana hotel.
She’d lost custody days earlier and had been ordered to give the children to her ex-husband in Georgia but instead drove to California - supposedly for a family vacation.
Authorities say she was arrested after trying to commit suicide by crashing her car in Costa Mesa.
