CHESTER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an elementary school teacher found a gun in a student’s wheelchair in a Chester classroom.

According to news outlets, a report from the Chester County Sheriff’s Office says a teacher at Chester Park Elementary School of Inquiry realized that a student in a wheelchair was sitting on a gun Thursday. The teacher lifted the student from the wheelchair and quietly removed the gun.

Officials think the student unintentionally took the gun to school. It’s unclear who owns the gun or whether it was loaded.

Chester County Interim School Superintendent Keith Callicutt said in a statement that the teacher and school officials followed protocol by having the school’s safety officer take possession of the gun.
