ATTALLA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a construction worker has been killed, and another worker injured, when they were struck by a vehicle during an accident in a construction zone on Interstate 59 near Attalla.

Senior Trooper Chuck Daniel tells local media that the accident occurred Thursday afternoon, near Attalla, when a vehicle hit a message board that the two workers were walking towards to remove.

Etowah County Coroner Michael Head identified the deceased man as 44-year-old Joshua Goodwyn. The unidentified 23-year-old worker was airlifted to a hospital. Head says his injuries appear non-life-threatening.

Daniel says Goodwyn’s death was the 11th traffic fatality in the state in the past seven days.
