SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police have arrested a San Jose man suspected of fatally stabbing his father then transporting and abandoning the body over the New Year’s holiday.

The San Jose Mercury News reports (bayareane.ws/1JyWUgi) Friday that police announced they arrested 30-year-old Maxim Zhukov on Thursday evening.

The arrest comes after investigators earlier this week secured a $1 million murder warrant for Maxim Zhukov in the killing of his father, 54-year-old Evgeniy Zhukov.

Suspicion fell on Maxim Zhukov after a relative reported the father missing New Year’s Day from the home both men shared. The body was later found in a car in Richmond, California with at least one stab wound.

A motive for the killing remains unclear. Before the victim was reported missing, there were no obvious signs of commotion or distress coming from the house, the newspaper reported.
