TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - A settlement has been reached in a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a man who died a month after an alleged shoplifting incident at a Texarkana liquor store.

Relatives of 28-year-old Josh Bishop filed the wrongful death lawsuit against Chubby Cheeks Liquor Store. The lawsuit claims the liquor store owners beat Bishop for stealing two bottles of whiskey.

The lawsuit claims that Bishop died a month after the Jan. 25, 2014, incident as a result of his injuries. Attorneys for the liquor store had argued that Bishop’s death was due to a prescription drug overdose.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1UCgUit ) both sides have reached a settlement, but details are all confidential. Attorneys for both sides said in a joint statement that they’re pleased the case has been resolved.
