NEW YORK (AP) - The family of a man accused of slashing a woman’s face as she walked on the street says he’s been in and out of psychiatric facilities for at least five years.

Dana Bazemore tells the Daily News (https://nydn.us/1S6Jafl) her brother, Kari Bazemore, has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and hospitalized at least three times following arrests.

She made sure he took his medications when he would stay with her. But she says he becomes aggressive and disoriented when he doesn’t take the medications.

She says after he’s arrested he gets help but here’s no follow-up after he’s released.

Bazemore was charged with slashing a woman in Chelsea on Wednesday. Police have linked him to several other attacks including one in which he punched a woman on the street.
