FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - A Layton man accused of beating a 2-year-old boy to death over potty training has been ordered to stand trial on aggravated murder and child abuse charges.

The Standard-Examiner in Ogden reports (https://bit.ly/1O7KPNX) that a judge made the ruling Thursday after hearing evidence against 35-year-old Joshua Schoenenberger.

Authorities say he stomped on and dropped James “JJ” Sieger after the boy used his diaper instead of the toilet.

JJ died on May 11, two days after he was hospitalized with critical abdominal injuries.

Under questioning from the defense, a medical examiner said he didn’t find injuries suggesting chronic child abuse.

The child’s mother, 23-year-old Jasmine Bridgeman, is also facing an obstruction of justice charge.

Police say the couple initially claimed the child was found face-down in the bathtub, but there was no fluid in his airway.
