COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Early risers will get the first pick of student-donated goods at a University of South Carolina winter rummage sale.

The event starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday and runs until noon at the Green Quad Learning Center near the intersection of Wheat and Main Streets.

Officials from the university’s housing department have collected about 2,000 pounds of assorted goods. The items were donated when students left their residence halls at the end of the fall semester.

Besides the household and dormitory goods, the students also collect canned foods for donation to the Harvest Hope food pantry.

The event is free and open to the public.
