STATE CENTER, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say a man has surrendered peacefully after an hourlong standoff with officers in central Iowa’s Marshall County.

The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/29PGe8t ) that officers were sent to a State Center residence around 7 a.m. Sunday to check on a report that an armed man had locked himself inside with an 18-month-old boy. A woman and a 10-year-old boy were able to get out of the home safely.

Negotiators contacted the man and talked him into giving up. He left the house unarmed, leaving behind a .40-caliber handgun. He was taken into custody for evaluation.

Authorities say the two children were uninjured and say the woman suffered a minor injury.
