BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The iconic symbol of the International Peace Garden will be lit up nightly to celebrate before the Peace Tower comes down this winter.
The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/29rhTFt) reports that the over 30-year-old tower will be demolished because of structural problems.
Four 120-foot-tall concrete towers comprise the Peace Tower at the park that straddles the U.S.-Canada border. Two of the towers are in the U.S. and two are in Canada.
CEO Garry Enns says it will be lit at night until Sept. 15 to honor the tower’s “final chapter” at the garden. The garden’s board of directors is having a competition to come up with ideas for replacing the tower.
