ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York conservation officials are offering some additional help for freshwater fishing enthusiasts.

The Department of Environmental Conservation has a new online manual called “The I FISH NY Beginners’ Guide to Freshwater Fishing” that can be downloaded from the department website.

The agency says it also stocks more than 2.3 million brook, brown and rainbow trout in over 309 lakes and ponds and roughly 2,900 miles of streams across the state each spring in catchable sizes.

Data about trout stocking is available on the Open NY website .

New York has more than 7,500 lakes, ponds and reservoirs and 70,000 miles of rivers and streams.
