ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police have released the name of the man shot and killed Tuesday night by officers investigating a reported robbery at a Home Depot store.

The man killed was 23-year-old Benjamin Zekovic.

Police just before 6:30 p.m. took a report of a robbery at the store northeast of Northway Mall.

Investigators say a suspect shoplifted items while armed with hatchets and axes and assaulted an employee.

Officers confronted the suspect behind the store.

Investigators say the man threw weapons at officers while advancing toward them.

The officers fired shots at the man. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.

Police say the case will be investigated by the State Office of Special Prosecutions to determine if deadly force was justified.
