SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say a man’s body has been found in the rubble of a burned Springfield home.

The Springfield News-Leader (https://sgfnow.co/29Dy9iG ) reports that the discovery was made Tuesday after the man barricaded himself inside the home and set the fire. A woman escaped from the home before the man shot off several rounds. She was able to call 911.

No shots were fired at responding police and firefighters, although officers had rifles pointed at the house while firefighters battled the flames. Police say they were unable to make contact with the man during the firefight.

Springfield police Sgt. Chris Wells said officers are working to determine what led up to the incident. The man’s cause of death is under investigation, and his name wasn’t immediately released.
