COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Colorado Springs police have arrested the former caregiver of a mentally and developmentally disabled man who choked to death while eating.

The Gazette reports (https://goo.gl/fmfpgW ) 43-year-old John Ledbetter was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminally negligent homicide of an at-risk person.

Investigators say Ledbetter was caring for the 25-year-old man, who choked to death at his home in northeast Colorado Springs on Dec. 21. The man’s care plan required that he remain under constant supervision while eating, given his tendency to choke.

Ledbetter is accused of leaving the man alone with a plate of food.

A man who answered the phone at the El Paso County jail declined to say if booking documents list an attorney for Ledbetter.
