BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Domestic dogs broke into the Baton Rouge Zoo and killed two spot-nosed guenon monkeys and severely injured a third.

A zoo spokeswoman says it happened Tuesday morning.

Kaki Heiligenthal tells The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report (https://bit.ly/29IhY7F ) that the third monkey - an 18-year-old male - had to be euthanized due to his injuries. The other two monkeys were a 22-year-old male and a 29-year-old female.

Heiligenthal says the zoo is investigating the death of the monkeys.

She says surveillance video shows a couple of domestic dogs inside the zoo early Tuesday. She says the dogs were not able to enter the monkey exhibit, but were able to get close enough to them so that when the monkeys reached out, the dogs were able to grab them.
