ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a fire in northern Nevada destroyed three outbuildings but was contained about an hour after it started.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://bit.ly/29wVIKv ) that the blaze was reported on private land near Elko at about 4 p.m. Tuesday and was quickly spread by wind. Fire officials say about 23 acres were burned.

Helicopters carrying buckets of water from South Fork Reservoir were able to put out most of the flames.

The fire stopped before reaching homes in a nearby subdivision.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
