HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - The trial of a Hampton man accused of killing his girlfriend won’t be held in Franklin County.

On Monday a judge granted Ronald Rand’s request for a change of venue. His attorney had filed the motion, citing media coverage that could affect potential jurors in Franklin County. The judge did not say where the trial will be held. It is scheduled to begin Aug. 22.

Rand has pleaded not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Randy shot 51-year-old Michelle Key at his home on Dec. 13.
