SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Orange County has agreed to pay $1 million to two county employees who were sexually harassed or assaulted by a former public works administrator and Santa Ana councilman who’s currently behind bars for sex-related crimes.

Carlos Bustamante pleaded guilty last December to several counts including assault, false imprisonment and attempted sexual battery. He was sentenced to a year in jail.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/29vuszL ) officials agreed to the payout Tuesday. One of the victims was Bustamante’s former secretary and the other his ex-boss’ secretary.

The women sued, alleging the county did not adequately investigate their complaints.

Prosecutors said Bustamante assaulted seven women between 2003 and 2012 when he worked for the Public Works Department.

Prosecutors said he hugged, kissed and groped employees in his office and made sexually explicit comments.
