SALINAS, Calif. (AP) - Police here have arrested a homeless man suspected of assaulting another homeless man who died from a brain injury Tuesday.

The Salinas Californian reports (https://bit.ly/29PX6K7 ) the beating of 49-year old Brian Carlton Todd occurred on July 5 on Soledad Street in Salinas.

Police say 45-year-old Ben Udo Mboso was located living in a tent near where the attack happened and was arrested on suspicion of homicide and a probation violation.

Police say the head injury occurred following a fight the two had over an old debt.

The arrests came after police retrieved video footage from a camera in the area. After reviewing the footage, police say that Mboso was responsible for Todd falling to the ground during the assault.

In an unrelated case in San Diego, there has been a spate of attacks on transients that left three dead. The killer remains unknown.
