FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) - A Utah couple has pleaded guilty to fleeing the state with their two daughters when they no longer had custody of them.

KSL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/29I9k92 ) that 35-year-old Christopher Montoya and 27-year-old Monica Martinez each pleaded guilty to two counts of custodial interference. Montoya entered his plea Tuesday; Martinez pleaded guilty on June 28.

Charges of child kidnapping and burglary were dropped as part of the plea deals.

Police say the couple took their 3-year-old and 11-month-old children from a Clinton home in May and fled to New Mexico, triggering an Amber Alert.

A Motel 6 clerk in Gallup recognized the couple and notified police. They were extradited to Utah.
