CROAKER, Va. (AP) - Game and fisheries officials say a woman and her 9-year-old daughter died when their boat capsized on the York River and they were trapped under the craft.

Officials with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries tell media outlets that the incident happened shortly after noon Tuesday on the river between Croaker Landing and West Point. Investigators say six people were on the 20-foot fishing boat when it began to take on water.

Authorities say the boat capsized, and 35-year-old Kimberly Privette of Hopewell and her 9-year-old daughter became trapped under the boat.

Investigators say all six occupants were in the water for about two hours until other boaters rescued them. Officials say Privette and her daughter, whom they did not name, died at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.
