PALMDALE, Calif. (AP) - The California Highway Patrol says one person was killed and four people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident that briefly shut a portion of State Route 14 in the Antelope Valley.

The CHP says the crash was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday near the Avenue N off-ramp in Palmdale.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Gustavo Medina says one of the victims was hospitalized in full cardiac arrest.

City News Service says the person who died was a man but his name and age were not available.

Northbound lanes were closed during the investigation, backing up traffic on the desert artery for miles.
