BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Officials in Belleville say fire crews found a man dead after he apparently came into contact with a live power line in the alley behind his home.

Belleville Fire Chief Tom Pour tells the Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/29SqRfY) that crews found the man at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, about 90 minutes after storm sirens sounded in southern Illinois. Pour says it appears the man was trying to remove downed tree limbs that fell onto his rear garage. He says the tree limbs brought down the power line.

The man wasn’t immediately identified. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A line of storms moved across Illinois on Wednesday evening, causing flash flooding and downing trees and power lines. As many as 63,000 electricity customers were without power statewide.
