OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (AP) - A court date has been delayed for a Mississippi state senator, his father and two other men charged after a fight in a subdivision last week.

Olive Branch City Court records show Sen. Chris Massey of Nesbit and the others are set to appear Aug. 4. They originally were scheduled to appear Thursday.

After the July 7 arrests, Olive Branch Police Chief Don Gammage said 44-year-old Massey was accused of hurting another man with a shovel.

Massey is a homebuilder. He, his father and one other man are charged with aggravated assault, and a fourth man is charged with simple assault. All are free on bond.

Massey says authorities have distributed incorrect information and the truth will come out in court.

The Republican has served in the Senate since 2012.
