ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A structural engineer is scheduled to be in Aberdeen on Friday to assess a building that suffered a partial roof collapse.

The American News reports (https://bit.ly/29V5x6m ) that a 20-by-20-foot area of Bargain Mart’s roof collapsed Monday morning. The business has been closed since, and tenants in the apartments above Bargain Mart are staying elsewhere.

Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Randy Meister says heavy rain built up on the roof, resulting in excess weight that led to the collapse. No one was hurt.

Assistant City Engineer Stu Nelson says a structural engineer for the business’s insurance company will be looking at the building. He says the building will remain shut down until an assessment is done and repairs are made.
