TOWN OF NEW DENMARK, Wis. (AP) - Investigators say a 17-year-old boy admitted smoking marijuana before he caused a crash that killed two people in Brown County.

The collision Monday night at an intersection in the Town of New Denmark killed one of the teen’s passengers, 16-year-old Simon Hill of Greenleaf and a passenger in the other vehicle, 32-year-old Laurie Shaha of De Pere. The driver of the other vehicle, an SUV, remains hospitalized in intensive care.

WLUK-TV reports Brown County prosecutors say the boy told sheriff’s deputies he had been smoking pot at a park near De Pere just before the crash, but had not been drinking alcohol.

The teen has not been charged in the crash, but was ordered held on $20,000 cash bond.
