JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Juneau police are investigating a fire that destroyed a 21-foot boat Thursday at a location in the Mendenhall Valley.

Police just before 3:45 a.m. received reports of an explosion and found the boat in flames.

Firefighters extinguished the fire.

Police say the fiberglass boat also had been vandalized Wednesday.

Someone had used spray paint to write a slur regarding the boat owner’s race. There also was evidence that someone had attempted to light the boat on fire.

Police are asking witnesses with information about the fire or vandalism to contact them.
