ROBERSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Martin County say the mother of a 6-week-old girl faces charges after being taken to a local hospital with what was described as significant head injuries.

Lt. Drew Robinson of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that 27-year-old Myesha Jones is charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. She is jailed under $100,000 bond. It’s not known if she has an attorney.

Robinson said deputies are searching for 29-year-old Lance Deon Spruill, identified as the child’s father. Warrants also charged him with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury.

According to Robinson, the child was brought to Martin General Hospital’s emergency department on July 11. The baby was transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Robinson didn’t have information on the extent of the baby’s injuries.
