PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a crowbar-wielding intruder shot by a homeowner is hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says the homeowner called police early Thursday morning to report shooting the intruder after waking to find him inside the home.

According to Lewis, the resident chased the intruder outside, shot the suspect and then held him at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to Lewis, the intruder entered the home through a broken door that was damaged during a previous break-in.

Lewis says the homeowner has been questioned and released and that the incident remains under investigation.

The home is located near North 83rd Avenue and West Osborn Road.
