SALISBURY, Md. (AP) - A Salisbury man has been charged after police say he severely squeezed his 9-week-old daughter.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports (https://delmarvane.ws/29QqOOP) records show 27-year-old Kyle J. Insley faces multiple charges including first-degree child abuse.

Court documents say Insley and his wife were questioned after the child was taken to a hospital July 12 for an appointment when doctors found the infant with several injuries including fractured ribs, bruising and bleeding in the eye.

Insley told investigators he had picked up his crying child “too hard” because he was tired and “just wanted to sleep.”

He says it was the first time he tried picking up the baby with his hands around her ribs.

The child’s condition remains unknown.

It is unclear if Insley has an attorney.
