CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - Officials have tightened security for Horry County Council meetings after the police shootings in Dallas and the deaths of two bailiffs at a courthouse in Michigan.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports (https://bit.ly/2a0kCqf ) that everyone attending this week’s council meeting had to pass through a metal detector and had their bags and belongings inspected. Additional deputies were also at the back of the council chambers.

In the past, such security measures only applied to those entering county court.

County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus says the additional security is a sign of the times. He said Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are also taking additional security measures for council meetings.
