CANTON, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio city has approved a $350,000 settlement stemming from a fatal crash nearly a decade ago involving a fire truck.

The Repository reports (https://bit.ly/29I18Wm ) Canton’s City Council authorized the mediated settlement this week. It awaits approval from a Stark County probate court.

Dale and Grace Burlingame had been celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary in 2007 when their van was struck by a firetruck as the couple tried to turn. Dale was killed. Grace was seriously hurt.

Grace and her husband’s estate sued the city in 2009. She later died.

The firefighter driving the fire truck had said he thought the traffic light was green. The city says the truck’s siren wasn’t functioning, so the driver was alerting motorists using the air horn. The emergency lights were activated.
