KENNEBUNK, Maine (AP) - State Police say a New York woman was talking on her cellphone when she was struck by at least three cars while walking across six lanes of traffic on the Maine Turnpike.

Troopers say 37-year-old Kelly Genito of Cairo, New York, died instantly Wednesday night near the service plazas in Kennebunk.

They say her husband, 38-year-old Marco Genito, was asleep in the cab of his tractor-trailer. Investigators say the couple had made deliveries to Lewiston and Medway before heading south and pulling into the southbound plaza.

Police believe the victim had crossed the turnpike once before, earlier in the evening.
